Soft, lightly sweet, and wonderfully hearty, this Honey Oat Bread is perfect for breakfast, sandwiches, or serving alongside soups and stews. Made with wholesome oats and naturally sweetened with honey, this homemade loaf has a tender texture and a delicious golden crust.
Ingredients
2 cups rolled oats
2 cups warm water
1/4 cup honey
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons active dry yeast
1 teaspoon salt
Instructions
In a large mixing bowl, combine the rolled oats and warm water. Let the mixture sit for about 10 minutes to soften the oats.
Stir in the honey and olive oil until well combined.
Sprinkle the active dry yeast over the mixture and let it rest for 5 minutes until slightly foamy.
Add the flour and salt. Mix until a soft dough forms.
Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface and knead for 8–10 minutes, or until smooth and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, add a little extra flour as needed.
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Punch down the dough and shape it into a loaf. Place it in a greased 9×5-inch loaf pan.
Cover and let rise again for 30–40 minutes, or until the dough has risen just above the edge of the pan.
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped.
Remove from the oven and allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
Tips
Brush the top with a little melted butter or honey after baking for a beautiful shine.
Add 1 tablespoon of flaxseed or chia seeds for extra nutrition.
