Cheesy Baked Stuffed Rolls

There’s something magical about recipes passed down through generations—and this one is no exception. These soft, fluffy rolls are filled and baked in a rich, creamy, cheesy sauce until perfectly golden and irresistible. Don’t let the humble look fool you—this dish delivers bold flavor, warmth, and pure comfort in every bite.
Ingredients
For the Rolls:
12 soft dinner rolls (store-bought or homemade)
2 cups cooked shredded chicken (or ground beef as an alternative)
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
½ cup cream cheese (softened)
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
Salt and black pepper to taste
For the Creamy Sauce:
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 cups milk (warm)
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
Topping:
1 cup shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
½ teaspoon dried herbs (oregano or parsley)
Freshly cracked black pepper
Instructions

  1. Prepare the Filling
In a mixing bowl, combine the shredded chicken, cream cheese, mozzarella, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined and creamy.
  2. Stuff the Rolls
Carefully cut a small opening in each roll without slicing all the way through. Fill each roll generously with the prepared mixture and place them in a greased baking dish, snugly side by side.
  3. Make the Creamy Sauce
In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter. Stir in the flour and cook for about 1 minute until lightly golden. Gradually whisk in the warm milk, stirring continuously to avoid lumps. Cook until the sauce thickens, then add the cheddar cheese, salt, and pepper. Stir until smooth and creamy.
  4. Assemble
Pour the creamy cheese sauce evenly over the stuffed rolls, making sure they are well coated. Sprinkle extra shredded cheese and herbs on top.
  5. Bake
Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) for 20–25 minutes, or until the top is golden, bubbly, and slightly crispy.
    Serving Suggestions
Serve warm straight from the oven. These rolls pair beautifully with:
    A crisp green salad
    Roasted vegetables
A light soup for a comforting meal
Perfect for family gatherings, potlucks, or cozy nights in.
    Notes & Tips
You can swap chicken for ground beef or even sautéed vegetables for a vegetarian version.
For extra flavor, add a pinch of smoked paprika or chili flakes to the sauce.
If the top browns too quickly, cover loosely with foil during baking.
Best enjoyed fresh, but leftovers can be reheated in the oven for a crispy top.
