Description
Indulge in a smooth, creamy dulce de leche without the guilt. This healthier version skips traditional condensed milk, added fats, and refined sugar—yet still delivers that rich caramel flavor you love. Perfect as a spread, drizzle, or dessert topping, this recipe is simple, satisfying, and made with just four wholesome ingredients.
📝 Ingredients
2 cups unsweetened plant-based milk (such as almond or oat milk)
2–3 tablespoons natural sweetener (such as stevia, erythritol, or monk fruit, adjust to taste)
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
🍳 Instructions
Heat the Milk
Pour the plant-based milk into a saucepan and place over medium heat. Stir occasionally until it begins to warm up (do not boil).
Add Sweetener
Stir in your chosen natural sweetener. Mix well until fully dissolved.
Thicken the Mixture
In a small bowl, dissolve the cornstarch in 2 tablespoons of cold water. Gradually add this mixture to the saucepan while stirring continuously.
Cook Until Thickened
Reduce heat to low and keep stirring. The mixture will gradually thicken and develop a caramel-like color. This process takes about 10–15 minutes.
Add Vanilla
Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract for extra flavor.
Cool and Set
Allow the dulce de leche to cool. It will thicken further as it cools.
